Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology is one of the ISO 9001:2000 Certified premier educational institutions, established under Manjara Charitable Trust in 1992, providing high quality engineering and management education in Mumbai. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.), New Delhi. The institute has been awarded “A” grade by the Govt. of Maharashtra.
At its inception, in 1992, the institute started three undergraduate programmes namely, Bachelors in Electronics and Telecommunication Engg., Instrumentation Engg. and Mechanical Engg. With an intake of 60 students each. In 1995-96, the institute introduced Bachelors in Computer Engg. Programme with an intake of 60 students. The institute was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in the memory of the great son of land, Shri Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1998. In November 2001, the college shifted to the permanent campus at Survey No.161 & CTS No.1376/1/48, Juhu-Versova Link Road, Andheri (W), Mumbai-400 053. It is built on more than 5 acres of land covering 16500 sq m of actual built up area along side the green and luxurious Versova beach
With India becoming the leader in IT sector, there is an increasing demand for quality software products. In response, the Institute started Bachelor of Information Technology programme in year 2003. The ongoing liberalization and globalization of the Indian economy has created huge demand for quality technocrats and management professionals. Hence, in the year 2006, the Institute started PG programme namely Master of Management Studies (MMS/MBA) with an intake of 60 .

The teaching faculty believes in the precept of “Telling is not Teaching”. All the teachers focus on both theoretical as well as practical knowledge through interactive and innovative teaching learning methods. Teaching –learning sessions are highly interactive and research based. The faculty encourages students to undertake projects, Short term training programmes in various fields of Engineering and Management education.
